Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual form of currency that uses cryptography for security. It operates on decentralized technology known as blockchain, which is a distributed ledger enforced by a network of computers (or nodes). This decentralized nature means that cryptocurrencies are not controlled by any central authority, such as a government or financial institution, making them resistant to censorship and fraud. Transactions made with cryptocurrencies are typically anonymous and can be conducted across borders with relatively low transaction fees. The most well-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, created in 2009, but thousands of other cryptocurrencies exist, including Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin. Each can have unique features, intended uses, and mechanisms for operation, often including smart contracts, privacy features, or different consensus algorithms for transaction verification. Cryptocurrencies are used for various purposes, including investment, remittances, and as a medium of exchange for goods and services.
